PGE has for quite some time been calling for the reform of EU’s Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). The most recent price swings and allowance shortages demonstrate that the EU ETS is no longer motivating energy producers to invest in renewable energy sources. The president of PGE’s management board, Wojciech Dąbrowski, presented the conclusions from a report prepared by Compass Lexecon, which identifies specific problems with the ETS market that lead to price volatility and a lack of market’s predictability.
PGE has signed a conditional agreement to purchase three onshore wind farms with total capacity of 84.2 MW. Conclusion of the transaction will result in 12 percent increase of PGE Group capacities in onshore technology that will amount to more than 770 MW.

While world leaders were discussing green transition at the climate congress organised by US President Joe Biden, the fate of the future of the mining region at the junction of three borders - Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany - is at stake in the Court of Justice of the European Union. A CJEU decision is expected in early May on a request for the immediate closure of Poland's Turów mine, which could lead to a sharp economic collapse in the province and also shake the stability of Poland's power system. In order to make EU leaders aware of the scale of the disastrous social consequences caused by the sudden closure of the mine, the owner of the Turów complex is launching an international information campaign entitled "Green Deal, not a Grim Deal".
On April 6, the Polish response to a request for the immediate closure of the PGE's Turów lignite mine was submitted to the Court of Justice of the European Union. PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna considers the Czech government's demands as a dangerous precedent carrying a serious risk of a ‘predatory’ energy transition in contrast to just transition promoted by the European Commission. The international legal battle brought by the Czech authorities over the future of the PGE GiEK's power complex in Turów threatens the future of the European Green Deal.
The Polish Energy Regulatory Office has awarded a Contract for Difference to the Baltica 3 and Baltica 2 offshore wind farms with a total capacity of up to 2.5 GW. The investment, will contribute significantly to Poland’s green energy transition, accelerate the development of the local supply chain and spur economic activity for many years to come.
