Special Olympics European Summer Games are sports events for people with intellectual disabilities.

57 national teams from the region of Europe/Eurasia will compete in such disciplines as athletics, table tennis, 7-a-side female football, unified basketball, power lifting, bowling, roller skating and badminton. This is the first event of such rank in Central and Eastern Europe.

- Being the largest power company in Poland, we want to participate in the events that also have an influence upon social attitudes - said Urszula Baranowska, Marketing & PR Department Director of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. - The Special Olympics European Summer Games certainly belong to such events. This is a sports festival of tolerance and positive energy that is spread around. Thanks to the sports competitions of the people with disabilities, we are able to see the participants full of joy, we may see how great they are and how much life energy they have.

According to the European ratios, in Poland there are 1.2 million people with intellectual disabilities, including 1 million with light intellectual disabilities. Nearly 17 thousand participants of the Special Olympics are Polish. The sports activities of the people with intellectual disabilities contribute not only to the development of their fitness and stamina, but also influence positively their emotional and social development.

- "Energy for life" is the motto PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. follows while supporting important social events. This exceptional character of the Special Olympics causes that as the main sponsor we identify ourselves so much with this year's Olympics. The event is a celebration of life and energy of the persons who face adversities - added Urszula Baranowska.
