More than 200 pianists from all over the world, including 25 Poles, have participated in the preliminaries to the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition. Both events are organised as part of the Chopin Year 2010, which is sponsored by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A.
Ending on 30 April this year, the preliminaries constitute a prelude to the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, which will be held in September. The other events organised within the scope of the Chopin Year include the following: The premiere of the spectacle entitled "Let's Dance Chopin" to be held in Shanghai during the Expo 2010 Exhibition on 22 May this year; The 6th International "Chopin and His Europe" Festival lasting from 1 August to 3 September;The 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition lasting from 30 September to 23 October; Two Extraordinary Concerts with the participation of the First Prize Winner in the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition - 28 and 29 October. This year's bicentenary of Fryderyk Chopin's birth has become a pretext for reminding the whole world of the life and oeuvre of one of the most outstanding Poles. Starting from January this year, all over Poland and in other countries, numerous events are being organised to commemorate the talent of this musical master.
