PGE Nowa Energia will be the first operator of electrical cars charging stations in Poland who will ensure a fully eco-friendly power supply for their customers. This is guaranteed by a contract signed with PGE Energia Odnawialna under which electricity in the stations belonging to the PGE Capital Group will originate completely from renewable sources.
In accordance with the contract, PGE Energia Odnawialna will sale renewable energy guarantees of origin to PGE Nowa Energia, in a quantity of 370 MWh for use in 2019. The next ones will be provided in the subsequent years. A guarantee of this type – being issued since four years by the President of the Energy Regulatory Office – is a confirmation for the final user that the amount of electricity specified in the document, introduced to the grid, was generated from renewable sources.
Electro mobility is an important element of the transformation of the Polish power industry. It is not only the charging stations and electric cars but an entire ecosystem that causes that transport becomes friendly to the environment. The PGE Group is the leader of the energy transformation in Poland and first to offer the possibility of charging an electric car with fully green energy in all its stations. What is important is that the project initiated just now is an excellent example of a good, mutually complementary cooperation of the companies of the PGE Capital Group and of seeking the effects of synergy wherever possible, says Henryk Baranowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polish Energy Group.
Our participation in the development of the Polish sector of electro mobility is constantly growing. We successively create charging stations throughout Poland, also in small and medium cities. We are also developing our services of car sharing, consistently expanding our fleet with electric cars. We want to make the development of electro mobility one of the flagship projects of PGE. We are the leader in wind and water energy, dynamically developing our photovoltaic projects and now the time has come to support activities related to electro mobility. As of today, the drivers of electric cars who use the services of PGE can be certain that in addition to the fact that they move using eco-friendly means of transport, they additionally power them with a completely green fuel, says Arkadiusz Sekściński, acting President of PGE Energia Odnawialna.
Under the guarantees provided, all the electricity used to charge cars in the network of PGE Nowa Energia will come from renewable energy sources. The guarantees purchased cover the energy demand in the PGE's stations in Poland, at least until the end of 2019. We will acquire further guarantees with the increase of the quantity of energy used by our customers, says Tomasz Marzęda, President of PGE Nowa Energia.
PGE Energia Odnawialna, a subsidiary of the PGE Capital Group, is currently the largest producer of green energy in Poland. It has 14 wind farms, 29 hydropower plants, 4 pumped storage plants and one solar farm on Żar Mountain. The total installed capacity of all these facilities is 2188.9 MW.
The owner and operator of the charging stations is PGE Nowa Energia. Currently the company has over 50 charging points in 14 cities in Poland. In July and August 2019 PGE Nowa Energia has launched new public charging stations in Bogatynia, Jelenia Góra, Lublin and Szczytna in the Dolnośląskie Voivodeship. Only during the last month, in all of its facilities, the company noted over 1500 charging sessions of electric cars. This number increases systematically, by 10 percent in each month on average.
