17 September 2009 PGE Elektrownia Opole S.A. has announced a procedure of competitive negotiations involving publication for the construction of power units no. 5 and 6 at PGE Elektrownia Opole SA. The announcement has been available in the TED (Tenders Electronic Daily) database, the Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union, since 09.00 am Central European Time, 17 September 2009. The subject of the published order is the design, delivery, construction, start-up, commissioning and guarantee period services of two new ultrasupercritical coal-fired power units together with auxiliary systems with a capacity of 800-900 MW each, on an EPC basis.
According to the project's schedule, an agreement with a general contractor should be signed in the third or fourth quarter of 2010. Construction work will start at the end of 2010, while the start-up of unit no. 5 is planned for the year 2015.

A part of PGE Elektrownia Opole's generation capacity is used as a source of power reserves which are very important for the security of the National Electricity Power System; this capacity is sold under the regulatory and system services provision arrangements.
